Your truck is not "All-Wheel-Drive"; that's a minivan thing. Four-wheel-drive implies that when you decide to engage it, at least one front and one rear wheel will propel the truck. The AWD designation is used to prevent people from thinking they can go off-roading with it.
There are hundreds of parts that make up the four-wheel-drive system including the transfer case, front axle, and vacuum-operated shift fork on the axle. Any one of them can prevent the system from working. Someone will have to actually look at it and make some tests to determine the cause of the problem.
