I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 with a v8 4.7 liter and I lost oil pressure so I took it in to the dodge dealership and they told me that the truck needed a new engine and the oil pump was shot they wanted to charge me 7000 dollars for a reman engine and labor so I took the home I started the truck up at home and the oil pressure was fine I took for a drive a total of about 20 miles and there was no problems with the oil pressure it is almost like the low oil pressure light and gauge was a fluke the engine sounds fine there is no noise or lag I had a oil change and they put a oil treatment in it that was like honey in thickness it is also very cold here so my question is do you think I need to replace the engine and oil pump or if the oil treatment that was in it caused the problem I feel like the dodge dealership is talking bullshit because I thought when the oil pump was done it wouldn't regain oil pressure at all and if the engine was done for it would knock or make some kind of noise which my truck is not doing I got the oil changed today and everything seems to be working fine so what do you think take the dealerships advice and get a new engine or continue with what I got

You need to either do some testing or fore go testing.

That is, I would either replace the oil pressure sending unit as it may be easier and cheaper depending on your situation, or hook up an auxiarlly oil pressure gauge, run it up to the windsheild and drive it at highway speeds to monitor the true oil pressure.

You may or may not know if the oil pressure gauge is correct on the dash. I've seen a fair amount of sending units do this.
