When I push down on the gas peddle to move the truck it will red line the tac unless I let up on the gas peddle. When the truck is in O/D and I press down on the gas peddle hard the transmission shifts down to 1 and will red line until I let off the gas peddle. When the truck is in O/D and 2 geer the transmission does not slip at all. What should I check to fix this problem

first you need to have the truck scanned for trouble codes (autozone does it for free) then get back to us with the codes. there will be codes stored even if the check engine light os not on. we can take it from there

It sounds like the governer is bad
this is fairly easy to change
just drop the trans drain pan remove the filter and the governer which is held in place by a few torx bolts pulls right out .Unplug the harness and re install a new one. Cost is about 85 dollars parts may be purchased at most auto parts stores
My 2001 has had this problem 2 times in 130,000 miles.
