I have a 2001 Dodge pick up 1500. I have had issues of it sputtering and backfiring when i am driving. Its never died on me. Ive got a tune up.

Sloppy timing chain, plugged catalytic converter, burned valves, carbon on the valves, arcing coil, plugged pickup screen on the fuel pickup, open diode in the alternator, worn distributor bushings, incorrect pickup coil air gap, old gas, vacuum leak, worn lobe on the camshaft.
