Engine problem
1999 Dodge Truck Two Wheel Drive Automatic 89000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I own a 1999 Dodge 1500 PU - 5.9 Liter and bought it new with 3 miles on it. It now has 89000 miles on it-a month or so ago-I was pulling to a stop
sign and it started to drop to idle then just died-but cranked right back up- It's been doing this ever since
but ONLY after I have driven some miles on the highway say > 40 miles - I took it to Dodge,they said it was the Idle Control motor-replaced it for $320.00
but the truck kept dieing - they finally told me that they couldn't figure out what's wrong and they would start replacing components until they figured it out!!!!&^%$#@#$ -
Since then I have replaced just about everything-
the Throttle Position Sensor,MAP Sensor,Throttle Control Motor even the sensor in the distributor -
Any ideas or direction you could give me?
I can replace this stuff myself but a clue to what
component might save me some time and money -
which I can then donate to you guys!!

Sounds more to me like the torgue converter isnt unlocking when you slow down from freeway speed.Check engine light on? Might want to try having it scanned for powertrain codes,PCM may have stored something. Sounds more like a job for a trans shop

No, The engine light's not on - The Dodge delearship ran the computer check on it-and it came back with the throttle position sensor being bad - which didn't solve the problem - If I keep my foot on the gas and keep the engine above / at 1000 RPM it does fine - if you wait say 15-20 minutes and let it cool down- it does fine again - So you think I need to get the transmission checked?

If that and the IAC have been replaced,I cant think of much else to check that will only act up after freeway driving
