1997 Dodge Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

my 97 dodge 4wd truck idles iradicly and dies when i put it in gear

5.9 litre petrol or diesel?

OK,

The engine idle is not manually adjustable, it is controlled by the engine management system, what you can do is clean the throttle body, check that there are no vacuum leaks, scan for any unresolved fault codes, clean the ICM, this may require a new idle control motor, start here.
