Recently bought a '77 Warlock 4X4, 400, 4 speed from a friend who had the eng overhauled 30 thou ago. He loaned it to a employee who brought it back missing and backfiring through the carb. Now when I try to start it it just spits flame up through the carb. He claims he had the elec checked and thats not the problem. Any Help? Thanx

If the ignition timing was "extremely" off it could be firing on the intake stroke. By extreme, I mean 180 degrees. You could check this with a timing light. Next, check the inside of the distributor cap for carbon tracking. Let us know what you find.
