are the radiator fan(s) coming on properly? also feel the radiator hoses to ensure you can feel pressure going through system. Please check out this guide

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-overheating-or-running-hot

Please run down this guide and report back.

only thing left is the radiator itself then or air in the system, try purging all air out of the cooling system.

most likely cracked cylinder head gasket or cracked head itself from overheating

I was on my way to school this morning and all of the sudden a dash light came on and the temprature gauge rocketed to the top. After I pulled over and turned the car off....let it cool...It was fine. Looked under the hood and no smoke or smell. What could be the cause for this?

Have the system pressure tested, if the windows fogged up it may have blown the heater core. Is the floor wet on Pass side?

Hi unknown18,

After the repairs carried out, you need to bleed the cooling system. since you have already run the vehicle, remove the radiator cap when engine is cold. Top up coolant and run engine with radiator cap off. top up coolant if required and when coolant level stabilises, close the radiator and retest.

The radiator drain plug is on either the left or right inner side of lower radiator housing.

when engine warmed feel along radiator core see if cooler at bottom than top woyld indicate corroson in radiator. maybe can flush. also spray water on radiator if temp drops good indication of radiator fault if temp does not drop then may have exhaust gas intrusion into cooling jacket

My car is saying that it is overheating because anytime that we turn on the car, the thermometer needle goes to the H. We replaced the thermometer thinking that was what was wrong, but it didn't fix the problem. We then change the heat sensor, but it's still doing it. We open the radiator cap, and it isn't hot at all, and the liquid is hot either, so we don't know what is going on. Please let me know if you have any ideas of what is wrong with the car. Thank you for your help.

Hi:
It sounds like you have a bad temp sending unit, or you have a short.

The sending unit should be inexpensive, so you may want to try that first. If it doesn't work, I would recommend you take the car to a qualified auto electric shop and allow them to find the short.

I have repaired several things and the car continues to overheat. Have recently replaced both heater hoses and thermostat. After taking the car home, was missing, so we took it back in for a complete tune up. Ran fine for a couple of weeks. Now overheating again. This is my daughters car - needs to be reliable!

Also, during hot weather, driving along, the engine just cuts out. You can pull over and turn off the engine for a minute or two and it starts again. But not good to be driving on the interstate and possibly cut out.

Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated!!

Not losing coolant. I have seen several things on the internet about checking the fans. That was going to be the next thing.

Also beware, Chrysler uses waterpumps with plastic impeller blades, these do crack.

Engine Cooling problem
1998 Dodge Stratus Automatic

I have a Dodge Stratus and my problem is that it over heats. Well, I dont know if you can call it over heating, but when I drive the car the heat will go half way and when I stop the car it starts to bubble; sometimes it bubbles over and sometimes it doesn't. Other times it runs fine. So my question is, what is wrong with the vehicle?

Did you try an new radiator cap? It may be leaking letting air into it causing it to sound like it's boiling. It's a quick fix if that's what it is, like $5.
