We removed an aftermarket wiring harness for a remote starter and stereo with lots of splices now the brake lights dont come on (the turn signals, parking and reverse do however). I did notice the two wires tracing from the brake lights to fuse panel / brake switch have line taps in them and used to be spliced in to the aftermarket harness. Thank you for your thoughts.

Hmm, were they cut or just spliced into?

Thrid brake light work.

You may be best off with a wiring diagram or have a mechanic look at it.

The harness we removed was not spliced or cut, there were these clamp type taps on certain wires and we just disconnected the extra wires, I did notice that the black w/yellow wire and white w/brown have taps on them and they lead to the brake switch and all the way back to the lights. I would like to test the swich with my multi meter should the key be inserted or doesnt it matter, and will the reading change when presing the brake?

Shouldnt matter, key in or out. Brake is on all the time, check fusible links.

Lights work before you messed with it?

I've got power on both sides of the fuse then on to the brake switch. I disconnected the plug and should get 12v on at least one of the pins I would think. There are six pins and only one has two volts power

oh yes the lights worked before. Of course I went and threw away the alarm and harness thinking everything in site was working

*i've tried tapping from a constant 12v wire and the brake lights work but dont go off when releasing the pedal also now the dome light works again but wont go off when door is shut, any ideas

Try running direct from battery, there should be a fusible link for the brake lights, could be blown out.
