Engine Performance problem
1998 Dodge Stratus Two Wheel Drive Manual 189000 miles

I have within the last weeks encountered that after I start my car the battery light will come on. I only drive it to school and work which are only 5 miles or so. I think it is the alternator but then again sometimes I will start my car and the light will not be on? Yesterday was th first time I noticed the lights dimming and I realized my car was dying so I shut it off and let it rest a bit then drove the rest of the way to work.

The frist thing that you need to do is take the vehicle down to Autozone or Checker O'Reilly and have them test your electrical system: battery, starter, and alternator. Once we have the test done, it is a lot easier to steer you on what to do next. While you are at it, check the tension on the alternator belt. It should not deflect more than 1/2 inch.
