have a 1995 Dodge Stratus with auto trans. It will go into 1st gear but will not shift to 2nd, just slips off, but when I stop , turn the engine off and start it again, it goes back to 1st. It will not engage the 1st gear on a stop. I have to Turn the ignition off then start it again for it to go back into 1st. do I need a new trany? Before this started I had to siconnect the TCM connections to get to the EGR for repairs. It ran fro about 20 miles then this started. It was over heating and I had to repalce the hoses.

Check the connection to the TCM. You may not have tighten the bolt holding the TCM harness.
