1995 Dodge Stealth Ignition lock and tumbler replacement

Hello - To better assist you is your model just the Stealth or the RT or RT Turbo? Also can you give me your engine size in liter? Next, I have attached what we have on removal of just the Stealth model. Many times you have to have a key in to turn and remove. Others, there is a lock pin you depress and it comes out. Yes please send a pic if you can't find a lock pin to depress. IGNITION SWITCH Remove knee protector. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Remove lap cooler duct and foot shower duct. Remove key reminder switch. SeeFig. 1 . Remove ignition switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Hello - Okay - thanks for getting back with me. I have attached your pic with a red circle. Does that depress at all? This may be what I am talking about. Look how this slides in and then look around for a hole. If there is one and this depresses. Then use a fine pick or nail and depress and then find a way to pull the lock out. Then slide the other in.

Will wait to hear from you to see if that depresses or not or something on the column pulls away from it to allow it to slide out.

okay after playing around with my new ignition i found out that does depress but only with the key in the acc position and i dont have a key... just what i was afraid of. Any way around this? If needed i guess i can be kind of rough with the old ignition since im never gonna use it again after i take it out.

Well, some of the ignition removals actually have you drill the inside. They have with key and able to turn and without key or unable to turn. So you drill the inside out so the tumblers are free and it is able to turn. I would use a small drill and go slow and step up my bits. The only other way is to get a key made from the dealer with the VIN number. They should be able to do that….have you checked that out?

I would first check with the dealer/parts department……..they usually need the VIN and proof it is your car……..they look up the VIN………and the key is cut……..

Then I would do the drill if the above is no good……….

So i looked into calling the dealership and getting a key cut that was a possibility however my ignition wasnt the stock ignition (Thats why my locksmith couldnt cut a key.) So i used a drill drilled out my tumblers the lock turned I pulled it out and slid the new one in. Thanks a lot for the help! ill use you guys again in the future!

Also, it looks like you may have a recall on your vehicle. The dealer may fix this for free. Please contact the dealer service department, give them the VIN number of your car and have them check on this to see if it applies to you.
