I have a 1994 dodge shadow. Around march my head gasket blew and after finally figuring out that was the problem in may, it was repaired. I also had a used distributor cap put on. Mid-summer the car started randomly not starting. I couldn't replicate the problem when my mechanic looked at it. It cranks, but doesn't turn over. The car usually runs a little rough, but not too bad. My gas mileage has gone down to about 15-18 mpg. This is the second time the car has shut off while driving. It sounds like it's running good and then it just turns off with no warning. Last night when it happened, the low oil light was on as well as the check engine light was blinking while I tried to start it. The oil is full. Can anyone help? My usual mechanic is 2.5 hours away and driving the car makes me nervous.

I'd first check the Auto Shut Down (ASD) relay, this provides voltage to the ignition coil and fuel injectors.

Next, I'd check the fuel pump relay, and the fuel pump pressure. Usually fuel pumps fail altogether, not intermittently, but I have seen some that came & went just like this.

Another possibility is the sensor in the distributor, perhaps.
