Mechanic told us that because there is little to no compression in all valves that we need a new engine.
How do valves affect head gasket?
If we replace valves - what other parts are affected?

Hi:

If there is no compression in all of the cylenders, something serious is wrong. The valves could cause low compression, however, I find it hard to believe they all went bad at once. Regardless, if the engine has no compression, it needs an overhaul or replaced.

As far as you question regarding the valves and the head gasket, they really don't have a direct affect on each other. However, either of them could cause low compression if it is bad.

If you have any other questions, let me know. (I hope this helps you.)
