I just bought a 2007 Dodge Ram 4x4 with the 5.7L Hemi. I am thinking about using synthetic oil. I do not know a lot about synthetic. The manual says that its fine to run it. I am willing to pay the extra money for better oil for peace of mind, knowing my engine is going to last longer. What are the disadvantages of synthetic other than price?? Thanks

No it is not a diesel. 5.7L Hemi Gas. Also the Mopar asks for 5w-20. Will that change if i want to go to synthetic? Also I live in Kansas, where it can push 110 degrees, should i be using 5w-30 for the higher temperatures to be sure i am protected in the heat?
Thanks

No, do not change the weight when you move to synthetic. My 03 5.7 hemi required 5w-30 and it developed the hemi tick by 5,000 miles. Dodge figured this out and now my 06 requires 5w 20, 52,000 no tick. Any thing heavier makes them tick. Engines these day are built to tight tolerences and having to heavy oil will cause them to hydraaulic lock and thats why you here the tick. The synthetic I use is mobile 1. Make sure you stick to the recommended service intervals even if you use syntrhetic, its just good insurance.
