Not sure what you mean by "flares up" but the trans is totally computer cntrolled, if it is having problems you may want to have a trans shop scan the PCM for any trouble codes the trans has stored. If nothing, scan the engine side of thePCM as well, sometimes engine issues can make the trans feel like the culprit
