My truck has 135000k miles on it. A few days ago I noticed while sitting in rush hour traffic that the temperature would get way past the halfway mark, almost to the overheating mark. Once I got past the traffic the temp gage would show normal temp again up untill I caught a red light. Then the temp would rise again quickly. I checked the coolant level and it seems fine. I replaced the thermostat but that did not fix the problem either. Could the waterpump be causing the problem?

When a water pump goes bad it leaks fluid out and you would see it on the ground if the fins on the inside of the pump broke off the fluid wouldnt flow you have to take off the pump to see if they are ok another thing to look for is to see if your radiator is pluged run the truck till its hot and feel if the whole rad is hot if only half of it is hot and the other is cold or cooler then the other it maybe your problem that was mine problem
