2001 Dodge Ram Weird problem

Howdy yall,
So when i push the gas down to take off quickly or to speed up the engine hesitants and then the rpms raise to 4000 or so. The truck will finally go little quicker but not like a V8 should go. Also notice when the AC is on that it turns to Defrost and then when the RPM come down to normal AC goes back to the normal setting that i had it on. Not good when you live in Texas.

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure? And based on the vent problem, you need to check for a vacuum leak.

The vents are actuated by vacuum. WHen you press hard on the gas, it opens the throttle plate which lowers the vacuum in the intake. If there is a leak, the vents will change directions. When you take your foot off the gas, the vacuum raises in the intake, and the vents then have the needed vacuum to work properly.

Check for leaks under the dash and where the vacuum hoses pass through the firewall to the intake.
Sometimes, with a little luck, if the engine is running, you will hear a hissing sound where the leak is located. NOTE: The two problems are most likely related. A large enough vacuum leak can cause the engine to run poorly.
