I just replaced on my truck, 98 ram. Guides that mechanics use say it should take 7 hours labor. Took me 10, but I took my time. You have to drop steering column, but not remove it. You have to pull entire dash out into seat, but not all the way out of truck. You have to have freon removed and disconnect 3 ac lines. Only special tool you need is for disconnecting these lines (spring lock pliers I think they are called). I have two manuals for the truck, haynes and chiltons. Haynes was a lot better to me, had more pictures and explanation. I would recommend buying manual so you will know what to remove and won't do more work than you have to. It wasn't really that hard, just time consuming and a bit intimidating since you have to remove so much. If you decide to do it, I'll give you my email and try to help if you have questions.
