Brakes problem
2001 Dodge Ram V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

My local dealer quoted me $1200 to replace the front rotors, calipers and brake lines. He says I have a lot of rust on the braking system & calls my truck a 'Yankee' truck since I recently relocated from NJ to Florida. He says he see's this kind of rust from the Northern states. My local brake repair shop wants $500-600 to do the job, but asked whether the rotors are pressed on or slide on. I don't know, can you tell me? Can you tell me what a reasonable repair cost is for this job? I'm very handy on motorcycles & have rebuilt many calipers & replaced rotors, pads. $1200 seems excessive after checking online prices of the parts. Seems the calipers are throw away items theses days. Thanks, Rich

If the lines arent leaking, leave em alone yankee or not. I live in Mass, and would not change em until they need it, they can LOOK rusty, and not have a problem for years. Go with the low bid, 1200.00 is outrageous! You remove the axle nut and pull the rotor.

On my 2001 4x4 you remove caliper and caliper bracket then the rotor just pull it off and replace it put bracket back on and caliper and pads it took me about one hour from start to finish and did not remove axle shaft nut rusted brake lines are fine unless they leak, always replace pads when putting new rotors on
