When I pressed on the gas pedle I excelerated but when I let off the gas it didn't slow down. I had to shut the engine off to slow down. At a stop the engine continued to idle around 3500 rpms. Later on that day it idled fine but when I went to test drive the truck it did the same thing. I pulled of the gas and it didn't decelerate.

Have you checked the throttle cable to make sure it is good and not stucking?

Yes. That was my first thought. I checked the cable from the gas peddle to the spring assembly that connects that cable to the cable that supplies the gas to the carborator. I sprayed a little WD40 to the spring thinking that it might be sticking just enough to cause the spring from releasing completely.

Disconnect he throttle cable and see if the throttle body is sticking or the cable.

Let me know what you find.

Joe,
I noticed that on one side that the carburetor was not attached to the air filter. I pulled the air filter off and the part of the seal had been sucked into it. I pulled it out reassembled it and it's fixed. Thanks for you help.
