First, it is a dodge ram 2001 4x4 v8 360. I don't know much about transmissions just enough to be dangerous. So heres the story: Truck doesn't want to upshift. It seems like it is in the "limp mode" for no reason. Now I've had a P1740 uhh torque converter solonoid engine light on forever! Dealer told me that pretty much can be disconnected...now I may be stupid but not that stupid.
So today i take a semi-long trip, highway driving runs great but then we go to streets...start stop start stop. So the truck runs high and only in first. Sometimes it didn't even feel like anything was there and then i'd floor it and it'd kick.
Now I got past this by reving it and then dropping it into drive...then all of the other gears shifted fine and smooth.
Upon doing that the engine seemed like it'd try to die (lock-out?) and then it'd hard shift. Drove 100 miles back home like that.
So what do you guys think? Torque converter actually shot or just the solonoid? Last i heard those things almost never go out...
