Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1999 Dodge Ram Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Immediately after a brake specialist changed the rotars and pads on the front wheels, the speedometer, odometer and cruise control stopped working. The job required over an hour of hammering the rotars off the wheel assembly.

Prior to this the fuel gauge stopped working and the amber abs and red brake alert lights on the dash came on.

Good one. Has the check engine light ever come on? Also, I would recommend checking the ABS sensors where he did the work. A brake sensor may have a damaged wire or somehing may have come unplugged from all the hammering.

As far as the speedo, cruise control, and odometer I question that they are related. To me it sounds like a vehicle speed sensor (VSS). I would have that checked.

The fuel gauge is a common problem steming from a bad rheostat on the float within the fuel tank. Most likely it is bad. The bad part is you need to remove the fuel tank and the float is part of the fuel pump.

Where are the abs sensors and where are the speed sensors. I'll get under the truck and fix them if I know where to look.

Thanks, Rick

The VSS is on the trans and the ABS sensors are behind each wheel. I would recommend having it scanned before replacing anything to make sure where exactly the problem is. Most parts stores will do it for free.
