i recently put a new alternator on my PU but the truck will not continue to run if i unhook the positive battery cable. in the past this was a way to check to see if your alternator was working is this no longer true or did i get a faulty alternator?

In these days that is the best way to fry nearly every computer in your truck.

Use a voltmeter across the battery with the engine idling and no accessories on.
