1997 Dodge Ram Surging

The engine idles up and down on start up and will sometime stall when first put into gear. Once the car reaches operating temp, problem seems to go away. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Jay,
Has the check engine light ever come on? It sounds like it could be a couple things, TPS, IAC, EGR, vacuum leak. Without a check engine light, it's hard to pinpoint.

Let me know about the light and we'll go from there.

Yes. At one time both the check engine light and brake light were on at the same time. They have since gone out when I pulled breakers while fixing a head light problem. Thanks for responding.

If the light was on, then take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free, and that way you'll know what direction to go.

Let me know what code they find.
