Engine Performance problem
1997 Dodge Ram

idles fine in every gear including neutral, but will not idle in park. Why? Has good vacum until you put it in park, then looses vacum and stalls.

That is really odd. The transmission is shifted by electric and not vacuum. Have you checked to make sure (and I know this sounds elementry) that the linkage isn't hitting a vacuum hose when shifted to park? It would have to be a large one like the power brake booster. Check and let me know. Also, let me know if the check engine light has come on.

Already checked linkage, everythings looks good there. Check engine light came on but our code reader broke before we got to check it. So hopefully we can get it repaired soon!

Take it to a nationally recogniazed parts store and have them scan it for you. Most will do it for free. Let me know what you find.
