1996 Dodge Ram V8 Automatic

how much should it cost to replace my alternator for this Dodge Ram 1500 1996 year, and why does it break down?

Hi:
If the alt is bad, the battery will die and cause the truck to break down.

As far as the alt, aprox 150 dollars for the part and an hour labor to install.

the altinator ranges from 129.97 at auto zone, there are ones a little cheaper around 119,00. With altinators most times it is not the altinator itself but the voltage regulator inside. If yopu get another one remember there is a core charge, they charge 62.00 for the core but you get that back when you return the old one.
