95 dodge ram 4x4 with 6 inch lift. I have a real torquey 1st gear but once the tranny shifts into higher gears the motor losses power. i am always turning the overdrive off to get any real performance. even so it doesnt feel like it has much power. I get horrible gas milage and i run 89 and 91 octane. at lower elevation the power increases but pings bad on a down shift. i live at 5500 ft and it wont ping but its like somebody put the e-brake on a little. this motor was rebuilt about 7000 miles ago. what can i check? the check engine light is not on.

If you get valve ping, check the knock sensor. It determines ignition timing.

Let me know what you find.
