1995 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9L, 2WD, Automatic. While sitting at a light, the engine started running really rough, almost to the point of dieing, and you could smell that it was running very rich. Upon depression of the accelerator, the engine stalled, shuttered then took off. The check engine light never came on. Once the engine gets above 1,000 rpm's, the engine seems to perform as normal. Following the advice of a local repair shop, I removed the throttle body assembly from the engine to clean it. When the MAS was removed it was covered in carbon, so it was replaced, along with the MAP sensor. I cleaned the TB using a TB cleaning kit. The new MAS and MAP were installed and the TB reinstalled on the engine. At this time the engine temp sensor was replaced. I also replace the plugs and wires. When the engine was started, the same problem was still present with no improvement. I then noticed that there was a loud "rattle" in the catalytic convertor and there was almost no exhaust pressure at the tail pipes. The CC was replaced and found that it had come apart on the inside. While the CC was being replaced, a new O2 sensor was installed. The engine is still doing the same thing. Very rough at idel, almost like it is running on about 4 of the 8 cylinders. If you try to accelerate quickly, the engine will shutter and almost die, but if you accelerate slowly, the engine will hesistate a little at the begining but will run normally.
