5.9L Slant 6 Cummins engine - The light became very bright and then went out. The vehicle will still run but the lights don't work and the battery overcharges. What causes this and where do I need to look?

Hi:
If the alt is overcharging, you need to replace the voltage regulator. If the light's don't work, there is a good chance you burned them out.
