1989 Dodge Ram recommended oil weight

I just bought a 98 dodge Ram with 139000 on it. What weight oil would you recommend for this truck?

5W-30 for gasoline engine, 15W-40 if it's diesel engine. the "high mileage" specific oils seem to do very well with keeping the engine seals nice and tight.
