i have an 89 dodge raider - 4 cyl - with a timing chain - not belt, engine model g54b - needs head gasket - chiltons shows engines with timing belts to be 83 to 89 models and those with timing chains to be 79 to 82 models. what do i need for the head gasket set? I assume the engine has been replaced?

Hi:
If you have a chain, the engine must have been changed. Take the engine number to the dealer and they should be able to identify the year.

no offense to jacobandnickolas but your g54b will most definatly have a chain no swap that i can see take a look at those chain guides while you're in there they are notorious for wearing out prematurly
