1982 Other Dodge Models V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

the gas tank was at half and then all of a sudden it went all the way down to below the empty line. then a while later when i was driving, whenever i would push on the gas pedal the line would start to go up but when i would use the brakes it would go back down...what is the problem???
