I have a 1973 Motorhome, that I just bought. It has a 440-1 engine in it. Do I have to use lead adatives in my gas, or is the unleaded gas going to burn up the heads and valves?

Thank you for your time.

I doubt that a 73' motorhome had a catalytic converter, but look at the exhaust for one, if non there, lead substitute might be needed. No way to know if a previous owner installed hardened valves seats.

After searching all day, I found a copy of the owners manual in which, "Chrysler Corporation recommends against continuous use of completely lead-free or clear gasolines. Continuous use of such fuels in normal driving could cause valve seat ware, resuling..." I am sure all previous owners never altered the engine with hardened valves seats. Thanks for the reply.
