I have the vehicle listed above Ram Van 3500. When driving in cool weather it gives me no issues running, or starting after driving, however at 60 degrees and above outside temperature it will run fine, but when I shut it off it will not restart until engine is fully cooled. When it will not start, it will crank just fine but not turn over and during this time the fuel gauge does not register, and fuel pump makes no sound. As soon as it's cool enough the fuel pump activates, fuel gauge registers, and it starts every time. During its no start moments when it's hot, if I turn the key over for a few minutes it will occasionally throw a No BUS code in the odometer.

Hi,

The idea that the fuel gauge doesn't work, and you don't hear the fuel pump turn on to prime the engine leads me to think it could be related to the automatic shutdown relay (ASD).

The ASD is located in the under-hood power distribution box. I attached a pic below showing its location in the box.

Remove it and inspect the connector pins on the relay and where it plugs in. Make sure there is no corrosion or evidence of a poor connection. If there is another relay with the same part number, switch it with the ASD relay and see if that makes a difference. The relay itself may be failing. Do this when it won't start to see if it changes things.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
