My engine came on and shortly after that as I tried to accelerate, it hesitated to go, kinda like a stop and go situation.

Bring your vehicle to autozone or your local parts place and have it tested on the scanner. Don't worry its free. And get back to me with your findings. It may be your Idle air control valve.
