2004 Dodge Neon

These problems occur about 80% of the time. Sometimes when starting up the car, it will reverse fine out of the driveway but then wont engage into drive. If you sit there and rev the engine it will kick into gear. And then sometimes with the first drive of the day it starts going but then doesnt go into 2nd gear and I rev it up and it kicks into gear. And then sometimes while its down shifting it jerks really hard while going down into 2nd gear. Do you know what may be causing this? Thanx.
