my dodge neon wont back up can it be transmission problems?

How about a little information to work with? Automatic or manual transmission? Does it go forward? Does it make noise? Is the fluid full? Is this the first time it acted up? Can't just hold my hand on my forehead and know what's wrong.

How many miles since the last filter change? Any other symptoms?
