2000 Dodge Neon Gas smell from exhaust when starting up car

When i start up my car i usually smell gasoline outside near exhaust and a light smell inside. Also when i drive my car and make a hard stop my car usually stalls then i accelerate and the engine just revs then it kicks in and i go on.. What is the problem??

Smell of gas never a good thing
you have to check for leaks
no check engine light on?
