1998 Dodge Neon radiator cap

My wifes car was over heating i changed the thermostsat and put a new radiator cap on the new radiator cap keeps popping off and then it looses fluid its like its building pressure and popping off i dont know why please help me as to why radiator cap keeps popping off when fully tightened down thanks frank red

Is cooling system air bleed valve open when filling? was thermostat vent aligned with notch in cylinder head?
