I have a 98 neon with 115000 miles on it and a couple of days ago I was driving in a snow storm when I started to hear a burning rubber smell. I thought it was brakes because we were in stop and go traffic so I ignored it. About a mile down the road my temp gauge went from normal to past the H indicating that it was over heating then right about the same time my battery light came on. I stopped in the first parking lot I seen and shut the car off. When I went to go start it again the car was dead. No sounds at all when I turn the key to start it. My belts are in tact and I have full power to the motor. When I turn the key over all my dash lights come on. Could this be a bad starter or solenoid? Or something more serious?

It sounds like the engine has overheated and has locked up, here are two videos to help confirm the problem.

and this one can help you turn the engine over by hand.

Please go over these guides and get back to us.
