Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Dodge Neon 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

i was performing an engine compression test after replacing the timing belt and idler pulley. Does the valve cover need to be on during this test to ensure compression

Hi:

No, the valve cover has nothing to do with the cngine's compression. However, if you crank the engine without it on, you will end up with a mess. Oil will be pumped to the top end.
