1997 Dodge Neon 150000 miles

I have a 1997 dodge neon with an engine ping that shows up afte the car has been driven for over 20minutes. What would be the most likely causes? (I read the spark plugs and the engine may be running on the lean side.)

check tune up make sure you have the correct spark plugs
try to use a higher octane gas
check timing belt
