2006 Dodge Magnum shifting out of park

My 2006 Dodge Magnum will not shift out of park using the shifter. After removing the gear shift cover, I am able to press a small pink button to manually take it out of park. It shifts fine to & from every other gear. I dont know if this is a mechanical or computer problem. My check engine lite was & is on before & since this problem occurred

Was the button a button or more of a lever? Did it cause the car to shift or just release the lock? Does this button exist on a 2005? Where was it located? In side gear shift in on right hand(passanger) side of shifter?
