I've noticed a leak at the very front of my vehicle and the fluid is red in color. I'm guessing it's probably coolant but not sure since the coolant in my car is red as is the transmission fluid.

How can I tell what kind of fluid I'm leaking?

Also, how critical is it that I get it taken care of? At this point the spot on the pavement is about as round as a penny but I wasn't sure if this can get worse fast or not.

I would suspect tranny fluid. Just check all your fluid levels and whichever is low that is the one leaking..Coolant is much thinner than tranny fluid so if the liquid is very thin like water than it is coolant but if it is thicker such as engine oil than it is tranny fluid. I would service vehicle as soon as possible as wether it is coolant or fluid, it is not going to get any better on its own and it will get worse and possibly damage something resulting in an even larger repair bill.
