The engine light on my car is on and has a fluid leak.

My mechanic has told me my 2004 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L needs timing chain kit & tensioner, crank seal, water pump plenum gasket & thermostat replaced. Estimated repair cost is $1500.00. My regular mechanic will not do the repairs. He is thinks the 2.7 L engine with 102,000 miles is not worth the investment. He thinks the 2.7L engine is a lemon and I should cut my losses now.

I got a 2 opinion from another mechanic who said repairing all of this is tricky due to the engine design and he could find additional engine damage or the repair could result in valve damage. He will do the work.

I also have had all of the dash lights blink on/off. The $1500 estimate does not include lokking in to this probblem.

In addtion, I had 2 senors repalced 2 months go due to the engine light coming on & the car ran rough. The sensor repalcment resolved the issues until this new set of problems appeared.

I am looking for advice. Do I repair this car or do I spend my money on a replacement car? Is this car with 102,000 miles worth repairing?

i dont think thats a lemon lemon engine.

whats the check engine light reading, and what fluid is leaking and how much?

that seems like quite a drastic repair.
altho that price for whats being repaired is not that bad of a price!
