2004 Dodge Intrepid oil pan light comes on

I want to know what the problem could be when the oil light comes on when I stop and goes off when I continue to drive. Also I smell oil when I get out of the car. The oil levels are ok.

Do you hear any type of knocking noises? If not get a mechanical gauge and check the oil pressure if normal replace the oil pressure sending unit abnormal reading could be an oil pump and engine bearings etc. As for the oil smell could be a leak somewhere-investigate and then get back asap
