I had the car serviced yesterday and was told I had a leak. The oil levels were fine, and none was on the ground, but you could smell the oil. The tech said some oil had probably dropped on the manifold. Could the problem be inside the engine? The oil light goes off and on. Should I get rid of the car before it gets worse?

Hi:
It sounds like the oil sending unit is bad. If the light is going on and off, that is most likely where the leak is coming from. It is a cheap part and you can replace it yourself. I believe it's located near the oil filter. Check it, and this car still has low mileage on it, so unless there is an underlying problem that only you know, keep it.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions. Also, if you can't find it, give me the engine size and I'll try to find it.

Joe
