2001 Dodge Intrepid fuel pump

Well, the fuel pump went out, so we replaced it car still won't start. we checked all the relays there good. were stumped. we thought maybe timing chain but the car has compression, were lost. we thought maybe it has a reset button, but we were told this car does not. HELP!

Hi Mary! You mentioned the fuel pump went out. Was there no fuel pressure? Verify with the key on engine off, that there is power to the fuel pump connector.

Hi folks, sorry to jump in here. There should only be voltage to the fuel pump for two seconds after turning on the ignition switch. After that, there will not be any power to the fuel pump when the engine is not rotating, (cranking or running). That lack of pump operation tricks a lot of people into thinking the pump is defective.

What tests lead you to the pump? For a no-start condition, you MUST also check for lack of spark. If it is missing too, suspect a problem with the camshaft position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor. When their pulses are missing, the engine computer will not turn on the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay. That relay sends voltage to the fuel pump or pump relay, the coil(s), the alternator field, injectors, and O2 sensor heaters.
