2001 Dodge Intrepid car stops

Engine Performance problem
2001 Dodge Intrepid Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a dodge 01 intrepid se not sure what the engine size is. The problem is if i drive it for two long the speedometer goes down to zero and shortly after the engine turns off. it starts up again no problem along with that whole process. My diagnostic connector is broken so i can not get it hook up to see if any codes could be causing the problem any help will be appreciated
